Places to visit | Rhodes Island Greece.

Rhodes Town - Old Town and New Town.

The heart of Rhodes is the Old Town, enclosed within massive walls. The old town is a mixture of Byzantine, Turkish, and Latin architecture with quiet, twisting alleyways punctuated by lively squares. The commercial harbour, for international feries and large inter-island ferries, is east of the old Town. Excursions boats, small ferries, hydrofoils and private yachts use Mandraki Harbour, further north.

In Mandraki, two bronze deer (the stag and doe) on stone pillars mark the supposed site of the colossus of Rhodes. Mandraki's grandiose public buildings are relics of Mussolini's era. The main square of the New Town is Plateia Rimini, just north of the Old Town. The tourist offices, bus stations and main taxi rank are on or near this square.
